From San Francisco we made a small detour to a winery around Napa valley before we arrived in Sacramento. There were two reasons why we made the stop in Sacramento. First, we wanted to visit this capital city of California and second we wanted to have a short break after the intense sightseeing days before.
Sacramento is not really a touristic location. When we were there it was the Memorial Day weekend (3-day-weekend) and so the town seemed deserted. Downtown Sacramento was a bit disturbing – there was a main road with a neat pedestrian zone and a modern tram, but the most shop spaces were empty. We were told that the financial crisis hit the local business hard. The only place that was busy was the so-called old town next to the downtown area.
